From the moment the station first signed on in 1974 with Herbie Hancock’s “Maiden Voyage” — beaming out 57 watts of power, about enough to hear it a block away — WCLK-FM (91.9) has been Atlanta’s best jazz station. Of course, there were times when WCLK was Atlanta’s only jazz station. But with competition or not, WCLK clearly stands apart with its smart and eclectic mix of all things jazz, plus programs that celebrate blues and gospel music. Jazz 91.9 WCLK (Permanently Closed)
When it comes to perpetuating the jazz tradition, no Atlanta radio station even remotely compares with WCLK 91.9 FM, the voice of Clark Atlanta University. When it comes to perpetuating the jazz tradition, no Atlanta radio station even remotely compares with WCLK 91.9 FM, the voice of Clark Atlanta University. WCLK mixes in some blues, soul and Latin as well, but jazz is the "thang". The station features local voices (the late-night "Jazz After Hours" show will take you home) and several fine NPR programs, including "Jazz from Lincoln Center," Nancy Wilson's "Jazz Profiles," "JazzSet with Dee Dee Bridgewater" and the irrepressible Marian McPartland's "Piano Jazz." While the Clark Atlanta University station breaks occasionally for reggae, gospel or blues, it offers the most comprehensive spread of jazz in the city, with both local programming and NPR greats such as "Jazz from Lincoln Center," airing Saturday at 9 p.m. "404-880-9255. In spite of the fact that "Jazz Flavors" has taken cumulative shots for playing some of the most vanilla jazz on any frequency, a sizable number of folks will miss it. Seems 104.1 has changed format altogether and is now giving Atlantans what we need most: more R&B (and R&B&R&B&R&more...
In spite of the fact that "Jazz Flavors" has taken cumulative shots for playing some of the most vanilla jazz on any frequency, a sizable number of folks will miss it. Seems 104.1 has changed format altogether and is now giving Atlantans what we need most: more R&B (and R&B&R&B&R& B&R...). So, here's to "Jazz Flavors." Let's hope its swan song is merely a prelude introducing some soon-to-be jazz station with a little chutzpah. less...

Jazz 91.9 WCLK (Permanently Closed)
WCLK's slogan, "The Jazz Voice of the City," really is stretching it, considering the many hours of other stuff aired there weekly. But hey, WCLK plays more of the real deal than any other station in town and most of its staff seems knowledgeable.
