Know South/No South Opening Reception

Is the South still a distinct cultural and geographical region apart from the rest of America? Seven artists present work that explore and challenge the idea of Southern identity in the 21st century. These photographs were selected by Richard McCabe, Curator of Photography for the Ogden Museum, from a national call and features works by Aaron Blum, Rosie Brock, Akea Brown, Joshua Dudley Greer, Jennifer Garza-Cuen, Aaron Hardin, and Anderson Scott. Exhibition showing from June 8 – July 14.

Jan Kapoor: Island Light Opening Reception

Artist Jan Kapoor has been photographing Ossabaw Island and neighboring barrier islands on the Georgia coast since 2009, capturing their fragile natural beauty in dramatic black and white. Island Light features recent landscapes from this amazing project.

Peter Bahouth: "Recognition" Opening Reception

Atlanta Photography Group is proud to announce the debut of “Recognition," Peter Bahouth’s site-specific installation featuring stereoscopic portraits exhibited in a sitting area with a specially constructed light table. Recognition explores the power of friendship and personal relationships to transcend the common transactions of daily life and our increasing social polarization. Reception and exhibition are free and open to the public. Show runs from March 29 to April 28. Bahouth will give a talk Saturday April 21 at 11 a.m.

Critique: Beth Lilly

APG executive director Beth Lilly will lead the December Critique Group meeting. As director, Lilly produces over 9 exhibitions a year, as well as workshops, speakers, critique groups, and events. An exhibiting artist and curator for 25 years, Lilly also served for 15 years as a photo editor and then Director in Turner Broadcasting’s photography department. Details

Deck The Walls & Shannon Davis

Join us at Atlanta Photography Group Gallery for the opening reception for “Deck The Walls” and “Shannon Davis: I Got Somethin’ To Show You” on Nov 30 from 8-10 pm. Deck The Walls is a group show in the main gallery featuring a variety of small framed photographs by APG artists, perfect for the gift-giving season. In the Maloof Gallery, artist Shannon Davis presents her new series, “I’ve Got Somethin’ To Show You,” photographs of a tight-knit but struggling community in Buffalo, New York. Special reception honoring Emily Earl

Savannah-based artist Emily Earl has been selected as the recipient of the 2017 Atlanta Photography Group/High Museum of Art Purchase Award. In order to honor her achievement, APG will host a celebration during which Earl will be presented with her award and cash prize. As part of the award, Earl's photography from her ongoing "Late Night Polaroids" project will be included in the High Museum's permanent collection.

This workshop is designed to take a photographer from an introductory exposure to Lightroom 6 up to an intermediate-to-advanced level in the Develop module, via multiple image editing exercises. Participants will learn how to unlock the vast trove of image data contained in raw format photo files to create powerful and compelling photographic fine art images.
