PleaseRock presents Led Zeppelin vs. the Who, a Rock Fight performed by Yacht Rock Revue with Special Guest Peter Stroud

Thursday May 24, 2018 08:00 pm EDT
The Yacht Rock Revue™ is the Greatest Show on Surf and the finest tribute to ‘70s light rock to ever perform anywhere. Their spot-on renditions of Hall & Oates, Michael McDonald, Steely Dan, and the rest of the Time-Life Infomercial Catalog have enthralled fans across the United States. It goes without saying they have taken their act to the high seas, performing showcase sets on music cruises with Weezer, Kid Rock, Train, Zac Brown Band, Sister Hazel, and fitness guru Jillian Michaels. By blurring the lines between a tribute, an original act, and a comedic troupe, the Yacht Rock Revue™ has forged a unique niche market and a special bond with their fans. The band attacks each song as if it were their own, and the energy exchanged between the band and the crowd has more in common with a stadium U2 show than that of a typical bar band.
Cost: $15-30

PleaseRock presents Kermit Ruffins & The Barbeque Swingers

Saturday March 24, 2018 09:00 pm EDT
"We Partyin'!" Kermit Ruffins needs only two words to hype a New Orleans barroom for one of his weekly shows, and this, his personal slogan, sums up what this Big Easy ambassador is all about. While still in high school, he co-founded the Rebirth Brass Band - a group that revolutionized the brass band community in New Orleans with songs like "Do Watcha Wanna" that have become anthems. Rebirth's growth and success bolstered the rejuvenation of the New Orleans second-line culture that now flourishes. Now, Kermit Ruffins and the Barbecue Swingers are a beloved institution - a must-see for every music lover. As he'd helped spur the formation of new brass bands in his 20s, he's since influenced the NOLA's musical direction in the 21st century.

PleaseRock presents Yacht Rock Revue UNPLUGGED

Sunday March 18, 2018 07:00 pm EDT
You're welcome. The Yacht Rock Revue™ is the Greatest Show on Surf and the finest tribute to '70s light rock to ever perform anywhere. Ever. Their spot-on renditions of Hall & Oates, Michael McDonald, Steely Dan, and the rest of the Time-Life Infomercial Catalog have enthralled fans across the United States. It goes without saying they have taken their act to the high seas, performing showcase sets on music cruises with Weezer, Kid Rock, Train, Zac Brown Band and Sister Hazel.

Join us at Venkmans on March 3rd to celebrate the official radio launch of Characteristics of Living Things. The collective is one part prolific lyricist and melody writer, one part instrumental savant, one part curator of taste, music and culture and one part effortless precision of all things percussive. These creators need no credit other than the satisfaction that these songs take on lives of their own, sent into the ether to be played with the windows rolled down on warm sunny days. These are gentlemen of various talents unexpectedly united with the unabashed desire to produce pure, authentic music with only spontaneity as a guide. Stepping out of familiar cages and unleashed to create something that had been stirring within for quite some time.

The Krickets, Shannon LaBrie and Kyshona

Thursday February 22, 2018 08:00 pm EST
Kyshona Armstrong, a music therapist gone rogue, has a natural gift for using music to tap into emotion. She began her career as a music therapist, working in mental health hospitals and correctional facilities, writing music with her patients and using music to redirect behaviors and emotions. Kyshona soon found the need to write music independently to help her process her daily experiences with her clients. Audiences will often find a common thread of overcoming, hope, and empowerment in her songwriting and storytelling. She uses her emotional intelligence to create her unique bluesy and soulful style of music. Her latest album, “The Ride”, shows off vocal stylings that are reminiscent of Aretha Franklin, Etta James and Al Green.

The Jazz of Prince: Madhouse

Sunday February 11, 2018 07:00 pm EST
A night paying honor to MADHOUSE. The always prolific Prince needed a musical outlet during the height of the Purple Rain hysteria so he recorded hours worth of jazz music with his only help coming from Eric Leeds (sax & flute). Warner Brothers wouldn’t allow him to release the music as Prince so he created the fictitious ‘band’ MADHOUSE, three masterpiece albums later.
