Sunset Sips: The Ruby Reds Band

The Sunset Sips concert series returns in 2018 to treat music lovers to an eclectic collection of local talent. This laid back, outdoor series has the CNC grounds open for you to explore. Grab a friend, a date, or even the family - head over for live local music, a cash bar, and feel free to bring a picnic dinner! Sunset Sips occurs the 2nd and 4th Thursday from June to September (except July; only July 5). The Ruby Reds Band may be the longest-tenured jazz band in Georgia. The band was formed in early 1966 to perform nightly at a rowdy beer hall and banjo sing-along parlor called Ruby Reds Warehouse, at 57 Ellis Street in downtown Atlanta, Georgia, and has been playing throughout the Southeast ever since. Baby Birds with Julie Zickefoose

Special Guest: Julie Zickefoose In partnership with Atlanta Audubon Society as part of Atlanta Bird Fest 2018 Saturday, April 14, 4–6 p.m. Julie Zickefoose began to draw and paint wild nestlings day by day, bearing witness to their swift growth. Over the next 13 years, she would document the daily changes in 17 bird species, from hatching to edging. Her findings are in Baby Birds: An Artist Looks into the Nest. More than 500 life studies hop, crawl, and utter through its pages. In this talk, Julie will share her influences as well as her artistic process, a must-see for the aspiring natural history artist. Registration opens for Julie Zickefoose program on March 1 to members and on March 8 to the public. $20 general public/$15 CNC members or Atlanta Audubon Society members. Flying into the Future

Presented by Northside Hospital Flying into the Future is where science and nature collide to bring you activities focused on STEM, Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. We are all about forward-thinking at this Family Fun Day. Come ready to learn about birds as well as test your tinkering skills with our STEM-themed partners and activities. The event highlight includes a flighted birds of prey show, where visitors will be able to learn about these incredible animals and have opportunities to get up close as well. This event will also kick off the opening of our Eco Tinker Interactive Exhibits, open this quarter.

Basics of Macro Nature Photography

In this class we’ll discuss macro and close-up techniques, focus, depth of field and creative options. Enchanted Evening Date Night

Whether you’re on a first date or have been together for years, come to the Chattahoochee Nature Center for a movie date night. Don’t have a date? Grab a friend - this event is definitely a departure from the ordinary – bundle up, bring your favorite blankets, and enjoy a movie on our lawn under the stars. We provide the movie and a cash bar for your convenience. There will be movie snacks available for purchase in The Nature Store when you arrive. Feel free to bring a picnic dinner or your own movie snacks to enjoy! We will be showing Groundhog Day (1993). Come see Bill Murray have the strangest day of his life. Over and over again. Rated PG. Coffee samples will be provided by Kauai Coffee and Cash Bar and Movie Snacks available for purchase.

Introduction to Photo Editing

Do you have lots of photos of the Chattahoochee but they just aren’t 100% yet? Would you like some basic editing improve your photos? We’re starting with the basics of photo editing in this half day class. Editing does not need to be complicated. Professional nature photographer Eric Bowles will show you how to edit a photo in 1-2 minutes. We’ll cover everything from downloading your photos from your camera to editing your photos. We’ll use Adobe Lightroom for examples but will discuss general editing strategies and adjustments that are common to a range of free and low-cost photo editing programs. 6th Annual Harvest on The Hooch

Guided River Canoe Trip on the Chattahoochee River

Great American Backyard Campout

Enjoy the fun of camping without going too far from home at the Chattahoochee Nature Center where families are invited to camp out and spend the night. They will lead a guided night hike, an interaction with a rehabilitated animal and of course s'mores by the campfire. Families are encouraged to register early as there are limited spaces.
