Join Charis in welcoming Richelle Donigan, co-author of Long Weekend: Guidance and Inspiration for Creating Your Own Personal Retreat. Richelle has studied and taught yoga since 2003. Through her teaching and retreats, Richelle seeks to diversify the yoga community, create inclusive practice spaces, and facilitate healing and well-being for one and all. She'll present a handful of excercises from Long Weekend to help you envision your own weekend retreat to inspire personal and creative renewal. Whether you want to sneak away with some friends or just turn off your devices and hide the to do list at home, Long Weekend is full of ideas to spend a creative, artistic, technology-free weekend filled with exercises and resources that will leave you feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. The book is a one-stop planning guide for building your own retreat and includes basic itineraries for how to shape your time in addition to rituals of renewal gleaned by Richelle Donigan and co-author Rachel Neumann's experiences as retreat leaders. Richelle Donigan will sign books. This is a Charis Circle Urban Sustainability and Wellness Event. The suggested donation is $5 but no one will be turned away for lack of funds.

Wilderness Survival Skills Teacher and Environmental Educator Mark Warren Will Speak on His New Books “Secrets of the Forest” at Charis Books and More!

Categories: Author Event Warren is the owner and operator of nationally renowned Medicine Bow Wilderness School. Warren has been teaching wilderness survival skills as practiced by the Cherokee for more than 45 years at his school in Dahlonega, GA. Finally, all those years of teaching have culminated into his highly anticipated series of books called “Secrets of the Forest.” Secrets of the Forest is a four-volume nature series written not only for the “survivalist,” but also designed to help teachers, parents, and outdoor leaders know how to engage students in fun and educational activities. There are hundreds of original projects – all richly illustrated or photographed– that delve into survival skills, plant study, using natural foods, medicines, and craft materials, ceremony, fire-creation, animal stalking and tracking, adventure games in the forest and field, archery, spear/knife/tomahawk-throwing, and a comprehensive canoeing program from lake to whitewater.

Mercedes Moreno's grandmother is in a coma, she's in love with her best friend, and she can't seem to get out of her creative rut. Just when Mercedes thinks her artist's block will last forever, art begins to show up in her life in sudden and unexpected ways. This is the premise of Lauren Karcz's debut novel, The Gallery of Unfinished Girls. Karcz is a local Atlanta author and a self-described language nerd who has worked as an ESL teacher and a language test developer. To celebrate her debut, Charis Books & More is hosting The Gallery of Unfinished Girls Launch Party, where Karcz will read, discuss and sign books.

Stonewall Reading: Celebrating Our Literary Ancestors
