Aleon Craft lays down a groove for adults with Cosmic Valentine

“Oh girrrrrl, you’re more than incredible, peaches and whipped cream, your body is so edible ...”

Image Aleon Craft weighs in with some outer space romance on his latest, Cosmic Valentine. If you can make it through the Auto-Tune croon of the opening cut, “Adagio,” there are some pretty focused jams here (“Jill Scott,” “Pluto,” “Terrified”). Keeping a fixed focus has been something of an issue with Aleon Craft’s prior indie rock / hip-hop hybrids. But conceptually speaking, the seven songs that make up Cosmic Valentine melt into sugar-sweet Kama Sutra soundtrack.

While there’s nothing quite as much fun as last year’s “Donkey King” single kicking around here, that’s not the point. This is a groove for adults — songs that are all about wooing the ladies with more of a Don Juan kind of approach, albeit experimental. It’s the kind of album where a man can sing his heart out, offering “Oh girrrrrl, you’re more than incredible, peaches and whipped cream, your body is so edible,” and you don’t want to tell him to get a grip. … Actually, that’s some classic Aleon ish right there. Go get it.
