ATOMSPLIT, NILLAH, 1945 — Tonight, the Atomic men are Splitting their time between The Fountainhead and the Earl. At 9 p.m. Atomsplit screens their new video, “Crashdown” (free admission and free food). Then, across the street at 11 p.m., Atomsplit plays with Shuteye labelmates Nillah and Daemon Records act 1945. The latter, featuring former members of Birmingham, Ala.’s Three Finger Cowboy, continue the grunge revival fellow Alabamians Verbena attempted, though they prove more successful (and enjoyable) by mixing pop and Pavement in their power chords. The Earl (Smith/Ware)

CAROLINE AND THE RAMBLERS, PENETRATORS — Here’s a great roots-music double bill which pairs up the Ramblers’ sweet western swing sound against the reverb-drenched ’60s style spy-fi instrumentals of the Penetrators. Rhythm guitarist Spanky Twangler is planning to retire soon, so this will be one of your last chances to catch the Penetrators with their original lineup. Star Bar (Nicoll)

PARK CHISOLM, HERITAGE CHERRY — Atlanta native Park Chisolm returns home from his current base in Nashville to unveil his first full-length CD, Hope Street News, a pleasantly understated set of rootsy singer/songwriter fare. Chisolm’s similar-minded old pals, local roots-rock band Heritage Cherry, opens.

FLESHTONES, WOGGLES — Heroes of the ’80s underground rock movement, the Fleshtones are still twang-meisters to be reckoned with, whether they’re performing lost classics or new Nuggets-style garage-rock anthems of their own creation. Their Georgia-based comrades at arms, the Woggles, are equally over-the-top. These two bands didn’t invent this stuff, but they’ll make you think they did. Echo Lounge (Nicoll)

VINCE GILL — Gill has become the mild-mannered spokesman for country music, hosting awards shows and trying to keep an even keel in the dichotomy that is Music City. He’s a super-talented individual who knows just what his fans want in concert — everything. Few entertainers give as much on stage, and he has the chops. If his last album seemed a bit schmaltzy, forgive him — he’s a newlywed and a dad again. Chastain Park Amphitheatre (J. Kelly)

GRACIE & THE SLIPCOVERS — An all-female ensemble that rocks harder than most of the male acts who play this club, the Slipcovers are a country band unafraid of peppering rural twang with incendiary Chuck Berry licks. And if you like a little folk in your country and country in your folk, late show opener Irene Kelley is a wonderful songwriter with a sweet, clear voice. She has scored a few big hits recorded by Trisha Yearwood and others, but her own versions on her new CD, Simple Path, ring with sincerity and style. Eddie’s Attic (Nicoll/J. Kelly)

TONOHONEY — The sultry vocals on “Troubled Minds” and “All Round Comes” are a soothing addition to the blues-infused rock this Atlanta band produces. The somewhat jazzy feel of these funk tunes is certain to get some hips swaying from the first notes out. Northside Tavern (Keel)

TOM PETTY & THE HEARTBREAKERS, JACKSON BROWNE — Through a quarter-century career, Petty has developed a catalog so deep and a talented band so tight, he can play a different set nightly and leave crowds blown away. He’s a natural, aw-shucks star who loves his work and is flexible enough to take chances. Browne, once the definition of the L.A. singer/songwriter, has headlined for 35 years and can hold an audience’s attention for his opening solo slot. HiFi Buys Amphitheatre (Horowitz)

SEKS — The Chamber plays host to the first Atlanta appearance of Holland’s Lucien Foort, aka Funk Function. Foort brings his groove-heavy house (a favorite choice of DJs including Nick Warren and Sasha + Digweed) to share space with resident progressive-house DJ Gene Carbonell. Kula Recording’s downtempo DJ Ecotekh keeps things chill in the Asylum. The Chamber (Ware)

MCCOY TYNER — Though he bailed on the quartet when Coltrane ventured toward noise, Tyner’s still among the most influential jazz pianists of all time. His big band work has been honored in the form of two Grammys and his solo outings are even more praiseworthy. One of the few legends who manages to retain the energy of his heyday. In fact, his greatest period might be the present. Variety Playhouse (Khalid)
