If the Saturday soccer game just isn’t competitive enough for you, try the Mountain Sports Festival, a weekend of outdoor sporting contests, clinics and demonstrations. The festival includes Biltmore Estate’s 15K Run, RiverLink’s fifth annual Triathlon, cross-country mountain bike races, a disc golf tournament and a climbing competition. Canoe and kayak demonstrations also are offered. Festival-goers will be entertained by music, adventure movies and a kick-off party. June 1-3. Just a short drive from Asheville, the Zendik Communal Arts group is hosting the Zendik Music Festival on its farm. Pack the tent and plan to stay overnight for a 12-band program. The Knoxville Museum of Art hosts The Prints of Andy Warhol (From A to B and Back Again), an overview of the artist’s work from the ’60s to the ’80s. Organized by the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh, the 50-piece exhibit includes portraits of celebrities, as well as his salute to commercial products. Through Sept. 9. Celebrating five decades of memories, the coastal town is hosting its 50th Sun Fun Festival. The festival signals the beginning of summer season along the Grand Strand. “Wheel of Fortune’s” Vanna White serves as parade grand marshal and entertainment includes the U.S. Army Golden Knights parachute team, a block party, a game of human checkers and other beach games, sandcastle building and a sailing event. HELEN, GA.
Touted as the South’s oldest balloon event and the country’s only long-distance hot air balloon race, the 28th annual Helen to the Atlantic Hot Air Balloon Race & Festival begins May 31. Six to 10 balloons will begin the race in Helen and finish two days and some 225 miles later at I-95, anywhere between Maine and Miami. The winner is the first person to cross I-95 or whoever is leading June 1 at 7 p.m. Other balloonists will compete in local events May 31 at 6 p.m. Tethered rides to the public also are available.
