Theater Review - Horton hears a who

Horton Foote won the Pulitzer Prize for his play The Young Man From Atlanta, so it makes sense for an evening of his plays to be staged for young folks from Atlanta. Three-year-old FirstStage, a theater company devoted to producing plays for families and young audiences, will be staging Three Feete: Three One-Act Plays beginning June 9.

Directed by artistic director Luann Purcell, the program’s three one-acts by Foote take place in the Texas town of Harrison and explore the problems faced by teens of different generations, with teenage actors playing most of the roles. “A Young Lady of Property” features Rachel Marinacci, “Blind Date” stars Vanessa Petrosky and Enda Breadon and “The Dancers” includes Wes Robertson, Suzanne Benson and Leah Sanders.

In his heyday during the 1950s, Foote premiered a new Broadway play nearly every year, although he’s probably best known for his Oscar-winning screenplays for To Kill a Mockingbird and Tender Mercies. FirstStage recommends Three Feete for audiences 12 and up, youthful attention spans being what they are.

Three Feete: Three One-Act Plays plays through June 9-July 1 at the SkyScape Theatre, 1655 Peachtree St., with performances at 7 p.m. Thurs.-Sat. and 3 p.m. Sun. $5-10. Call 404-843-4968. www.firstage.org/.??
