The Company Acting Studio unveils new home at SkyScape Theatre

Add to the list of recent arrivals on the local theater scene a new stage. This weekend, the Company Acting Studio unveils its new home at the SkyScape Theatre, on the 11th floor of the 1655 Peachtree building (formerly The Peach due to the giant rooftop peach).

The troupe is breaking in the new space with an appropriately titled show, Telegram From Heaven. Set on the eve of World War II, the comedy follows a Bronx woman’s struggles with her family and dating. The play is based on a novel by Arnold Manoff and is written by his daughter, Dinah Manoff (of NBC’s “Empty Nest”), and Dennis Bailey. Company Acting Studio executive director Lisina Longo and Janet Wells star in the show’s Southeastern premiere. The production kicks off the Company Acting Studio’s new season; the troupe typically mounts four shows a year, says marketing director John Stoneburner.

In addition to its performances, Company Acting Studio offers youth acting classes and produces Actor’s Expo, an actors’ trade show, which will be held Sept. 8 at the Rialto Center for the Performing Arts.

The 75-seat SkyScape Theater also will host performances by Atlanta’s FirstStage children’s theater.

Company Acting Studio presents Telegram From Heaven Aug. 10-Sept. 2 at The SkyScape Theatre, 1655 Peachtree St. 8 p.m. Fri. and Sat., 5 p.m. Sun. $12-$18. 404-607-1626. For information on Actor’s Expo, call 404-607-1626 or visit www.actexpo.com.??
