Moving Forward Dance Festival 2007
To describe it as eclectic barely touches on the range of performances planned for the MOVING FORWARD DANCE FESTIVAL Sat., NOV. 3. The event originated post-Hurricane Katrina in 2005 as CityDance Ensemble artistic director Pamela Dionne’s response to Atlanta’s poverty level and the dire straits of many Gulf Coast refugees. Now having skipped a year, the event returns to benefit the Atlanta Community Food Bank (audience members are also encouraged to bring nonperishable food donations) with contributions from some of the city’s most recognizable names in dance, including the Atlanta Ballet, CORE Performance Company (pictured), CityDance, Ruth Mitchell Dance Theatre – the list goes on. Additionally, a 30-piece orchestra pulled from the Atlanta Philharmonic provides a live soundtrack. $25-$45. 8 p.m. Rialto Center for the Arts, 80 Forsyth St. 404-413-9849. www.citydance.us.
