Arts Agenda - Bridging genres

To enter a space where techno communes with traditional art forms, check out Thursday night’s event at eleven50. Worlds of musical and visual impressions will be caught up in Inner Forms, an imaginative fundraiser for Bridging the Gap, an Atlanta-based immigrant assistance organization. The evening will be a collage of techno installations, streaming projections and live performance. Japanese, Indian and Senegalese inspired drum and dance will alternate with a DJ spinning ethnic underground beats.

Event producers Nicola Vidali and Joseph Leone have designed what they call an “aurora borealis of primordial and mythological motifs.” That means projecting layers of image and sound through and around performers and audience. In the venue’s gallery space, works will involve abstracted videos of urban scenes viewed through an installation of transparent scrims, a montage of 3-D video projections (glasses provided), a layered glass video sculpture and interactive voice elements. “We have no limits,” says Vidali. “Everything’s soft; everything’s out of the box.”

Since 1994, Bridging the Gap has been facilitating interactions among Atlanta’s diverse ethnic communities and local service providers, educators and law enforcement officers. President/CEO Gail Hoffman considers that Inner Forms “shows the deep value in connections between cultures. That’s very much part of our mission.”

Inner Form performances are at 8:30, 10:30 p.m. and midnight at eleven50, 1150 Peachtree St. between 14th & 13th streets. $15. www.innerforms.com. 404-886-2822.??
