Arts Agenda - Eyedrum has left the building

Eyedrum Music & Art Gallery has become the vanguard of Atlanta’s underground art and music scene. For three years, its organizers have been staging avant-garde music shows and contemporary art exhibitions in its two-story, Trinity Avenue gallery — but not for long.

In late August, Eyedrum will relocate from its downtown gallery to its new home at 290 MLK Jr. Drive, beside the Mattress Factory in Cabbagetown.

“The main attraction is it has handicap access, and it’s a little nicer facility,” says Eyedrum member Ben Young. The new gallery is slightly larger than Eyedrum’s current space, Young says, and it’s contained on one level, divided into separate areas for music and visual arts.

In a fitting send-off to the Trinity Avenue space, Eyedrum presents Multiple Media Dimensions of Delirium, an exhibition of works by 22 Eyedrum members, including Young, Woody Cornwell, Bill Spence, Sloane Robinson, Lisa Alembik and Caroline Bullock, among others.

Performances scheduled this month include an appearance by Danger Woman, the outspoken disability activist known for her stream-of-consciousness rants, Aug. 10; the second annual music fund raiser featuring performances by Heavy Medical Hardware, Stetson Fitz and Grace Braun, among others, Aug. 25; and Video Night Aug. 29.

Eyedrum’s new gallery opens in September.

Multiple Media Dimensions of Delirium continues through Aug. 25 at Eyedrum Music & Art Gallery, 253 Trinity Ave. Open Wed. and Sat. noon-5 p.m., during scheduled events and by appointment. 404-422-6517. eyedrum.org.??
