Arts Agenda - Firecracker pops

On March 3, join the celebration of Firecracker, a new Atlanta-based arts magazine, and POP Films’ upcoming documentary on punk band Hot Water Music with a silent art auction and party at the Mattress Factory. Organizers promise live entertainment with Pelican City, Benjamin Lovett and Tonya Abernathy, surrounded by the art of 50 locals including Wade Thompson, Erin Bennett, Ryan Lincicome, Woody Cornwell, Todd Carroll and Steve Pomberg.
With a premiere issue set to pop this April, Firecracker will cover music, art, film and literature with a slant toward underground, independent and emerging artists. The masterminds are Amre Klimchak and Ama Reynolds, who worked as editors for the late Florida Flambeau, an 80-year-old independent daily newspaper in Tallahassee.
They envision a quarterly publication with features and reviews of a national scope, along with submissions of poetry, fiction and images of fine art.
The story on Hot Water Music is that producer Maya Contreras and director Ben Lovett have been following and filming the Gainesville, Fla., band for the past year. A trailer for the tale of Hot Water’s transition from fringe to major label will be screened at the party.
Silent auction and party for Firecracker and POP Films will be held March 3 at A-13 Mattress Factory Lofts, 290 Martin Luther King Drive. Auction begins at 8 p.m. Auction will be held from 9:15-10:30 p.m. Party until 2 a.m. 404-427-4227.
