Arts Agenda - ‘Til death do we part, about half the time

Diamonds, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, aren’t always forever.

The CDC announced last week that a study of more than 10,000 marriages showed 43 percent end in separation or divorce before the couple’s 15th anniversary.

One in three marriages ends within 10 years, and one in five won’t make it through five years.

But there’s good news for women who end their first marriage quickly, the CDC finds.

Women who divorce by the time they are 25 are more likely to find another husband than women who divorce later.

And finding another mate can help prevent all kinds of distress.

“Compared with married individuals,” the CDC report states, “divorcees exhibit lower levels of psychological well-being, more health problems ... more social isolation, less gratifying sex lives, more negative life events, greater levels of depression and alcohol use, and lower levels of happiness and self-acceptance.”??
