Mouthful - Chocolate makers

From Doraville to Decatur

We all have a chocoholic or two in our life. When buying confections for such fiends, the mass-produced varieties will not do. Give these local chocolatiers a try instead.

K Chocolat: Kristen Hard’s confections grace the menus of many Atlanta restaurants, such as Decatur’s Chocolate Bar. Each chocolate is made with high-quality organic ingredients and infused with vibrant flavor combinations of holistic ingredients; cardamom, rosemary, damiana and ginseng dance across your palate in the “Protect” truffle. Look for a boutique in Inman Park later this summer. www.kchocolat.com.

Lexington Chocolatier: James Chalifoux’s chocolate shop is located in a semi-industrial space, but it still feels old-fashioned with its selection of simple sweets such as chocolate-covered caramel apples, pecan clusters, chocolate strawberries and chocolate-covered potato pretzels. Each item is made with a special blend of Swiss chocolate in a glass-paned “open kitchen” where you can watch the chef and his staff craft the treats. 68 Fifth St. 404-875-0111. www.lexingtonchocolatier.com.

Maison Robert Fine Chocolates: This precious mom-and-pop chocolate shop run by Robert Reeb and his wife, Patricia, has been an Atlanta favorite for many years. The couple sells a wide assortment of sweets such as lemon tartlettes and marzipan “critters,” but the hand-dipped chocolates – especially the hazelnut bûchette and cognac truffle dotted with a crystallized violet petal – are beautiful and delicious. 3708 N. Peachtree Road. 770-454-6442. www.maisonrobertchocolates.com.
