Fontaine’s Oysterhouse: A wonderfully laid-back neighborhood atmosphere makes anyone feel welcome at this Virginia-Highland mainstay. If you’re dining on the cheap, you can grab a dozen house oysters for $5 on Tuesday nights and wash them down with a $2 beer. But there are other choices, such as Blue Points and BeauSoleils, for a slightly higher price tag. Au Pied de Cochon: If there’s one reason to visit this outpost of the historical Parisian brasserie, it’s the seafood. Choices such as plump Malpeques from the gorgeous display case arrive on a mound of ice piled high, accompanied by a tiny bottle of Tabasco and other accoutrements.
