Mouthful - Croissants (2)

THE MARKET AT PARISH: The Market’s offerings are the work of pastry chef extraordinaire Jonathan St. Hilaire. Simply grab a pair of tongs from the antique shelving that houses all of the baked goods and fill a brown paper bag with an abundance of treats. The chocolate almond croissant is a gorgeous mash-up of two classics, encrusted with toasted almonds and filled with dark chocolate and gooey almond paste. And purists will adore the picture-perfect curl of the plain butter croissants that crumble and crackle with each bite. 240 North Highland Avenue. 404-681-4434. www.parishatl.com.

JOLI KOBE BAKERY & CAFÉ: It didn’t take long for word to spread that this beloved Japanese-French hybrid had finally opened an intown location. The new bakery and café is just as precious as the original with similar offerings including a drool-inducing bakery case and impeccable loaves of bread stacked neatly on shelves behind the counter. Any of the croissants are the epitome of what junkies crave — buttery, flaky, puffed with air and just the right amount of tug when torn apart. We dare say they may be the best in town. 1545 Peachtree Street. 404-870-0640. www.jolikobe.com.

ALON’S BAKERY AND CAFÉ: You can’t discuss French pastry in this town without the eventual mention of chef Alon Balshan. Balshan, who recently opened a second location of his award winning bakery and market in Dunwoody, has a firm grasp on old world baking techniques and a commitment to quality. Although the croissants can sometimes be a tad too chewy, the flavor of the premium ingredients and freshly made goodness make them a tasty way to start off the day alongside a strong cup of coffee. 1394 North Highland Avenue (and one other location). 404-872-6000. www.alons.com.
