Beer Pick of the Week - Saxo

One of the best examples of the Belgian strong pale ale style that includes Duvel and Unibroue’s La Fin du Monde, Saxo manages to be both delicate and assertive. Honey gold with a tight, lacy foam that clings to the glass like a jealous lover. The perfume is spicy, of coriander, pepper and sourdough yeast. On the lips, the taste is tart upfront, redolent of crisp apple, pear and a hint of lemon. A honey-malt sweetness emerges as it warms, along with a hint of alcohol, giving it plenty of body. Lively and effervescent on the tongue, with a slightly metallic tang and a dry, mildly bitter finish. The perfect summer lover.

Brasserie Caracole, Falmignoul, Belgium, 8% ABV. Available on draft at the Brick Store Pub.
