Beer Pick of the Week - Three Philosophers Belgian Blend

An infusion of kriek, a Flemish sour ale made with cherries, gives this Belgian-style quadruple ale a wonderfully complex character. It can be cellared at 50 degrees to 60 degrees to bring out different flavors as the yeast added during bottling continues to do its work. Rich caramel malts, brown sugar and dark fruits (cherries, plums, raisins) dominate the palate, accented with aromas of allspice and pine. This is a full-bodied beer, with an almost chewy texture, but it is not cloying or syrupy thanks to a mild sourness and a palate cleansing hop bitterness and warming alcohol finish. A perfect dessert beer by itself, it also pairs well with chocolates and rich or smoky cheeses.
