Beer Pick of the Week - Terrapin Big Hoppy Monster

Imperial Red Ale

Despite its name, Terrapin’s fall release in its Monster Beer Tour is a wonderfully balanced beer. Reddish-brown with a nearly purple tint, its aroma is surprisingly malty, with heady brown sugar notes and floral, spicy hops. The hop flavor is more resiny and herbal, with a pleasant orange bitterness up front and in the finish. Five kinds of hops help this beer live up to its name, but it’s the oaky, earthy malts and plum and vinous flavors that really pull this beer together, making it a sensuous indulgence that is never overpowering. An outstanding offering from what is becoming one of the top craft breweries in the country.

Terrapin Beer Company, Athens, Ga. 8.3% ABV.
