Beer Pick of the Week - Allagash White

Witbier

Allagash Brewing Company

5% ABV

This classic Belgian-style wheat pours a cloudy, goldenrod yellow with a perfect off-white cap, leaving a sheet of lacing on the sides of the glass as it is drained; and it certainly drains easily. Ridiculously creamy wheat and sweet, grainy malts back up a gentle spiciness of coriander, clove, and bubblegum. There’s a hint of the characteristic banana from the Belgian yeasts, and a melon-like sweetness, as well. Not as tart, nor as intense, as many witbiers; all of the elements blend perfectly and subtly. One of the best examples of the style, from either the U.S. or Belgium, and a 2005 Gold Medal winner at the Great American Beer Festival.
