Beer Pick of the Week - St Peter’s Old-Style Porter

Unlike most American versions of this style, St. Peter’s Porter is made in the traditional way using an actual blend of an aged dark beer and a lighter, mild ale. The result is a medium-bodied, modestly hopped brew, with a low bitterness and a creamy, earthy malt character. If you are used to espresso-like coffee bitterness and a heavy mouthfeel from your porters, this one may seem a bit thin and tame, but it proves substantial enough, especially at cellar temperature, to keep your attention without leaving your tongue parched and fatigued. The modest ABV and carbonation make it a nice choice for a winter session, and the unique, olive-green bottle will transport you back to the 18th century, when dock workers drank porters for strength, not strong porters.
