Art news & notes: High names new board chairwoman, and goes coo coo for Kiki Smith

TBS exec Louise Sams tapped to helm museum board, and 56 of Smith’s prints added to the permanent collection

The High announced today the appointment of TBS exec Louise Sams as the museum’s new board chairwoman. Sams, who’s served on the board for eight years, succeeds board chairman James L. Henderson, III, after a four-year run.

The Executive Vice President and General Counsel, of TBS, Inc. and President, TBS International, Sams is also on the board of trustees of Princeton University, where she earned a bachelor of arts degree, the board of directors of the Metro Atlanta YMCA and the board of councilors of the Carter Center.

In addition to the new board appointment, the museum also recently acquired a collection of 56 prints by renowned artist Kiki Smith. The acquisition was a partial gift from collector Stephen Dull and a partial purchase. The large acquisition makes the High a major national repository for Smith’s graphic work, and will be exhibited in Kiki Smith: Rituals at the High Oct. 8, 2011-Jan. 22, 2012.
