Last year’s Art Papers auction, featuring dozens and dozens of works of art (plus hors d’oeuvre), looked like this. What will this year’s event, the 15th, look like at Mason Murer Fine Art? More of the same, plus more - the 2014 auction includes 250-plus artists. Proceeds benefit Art Papers’ programming. The collector’s preview is Friday from 7-9 p.m.; the auction (and party!) start at 7 p.m. on Saturday.

FRIDAY
“I FUCKING L*** YOU is a collaboration between George Long and Mike Stasny celebrating their Atlanta friends by creating unearthly ‘monuments’ in their name.” That’s how the Kibbee Gallery describes their new exhibit, and I can’t much improve on it - except for a quick note: The show favors the color pink; also pieces of stuffed animals divorced from any/all cuddly context. Opening reception is 6-10 p.m.

Paul LaJeunesse’s A Sense of Place, at 2 Rules, is something else. If successful, LaJeunesse (a realist in the oils-on-canvas mode) transports his audience to the places depicted in his works: towns before mountains; houses behind trees; with a quality of light that sometimes seems to wrinkle. Fittingly, the artist quotes Yi-Fu Tuan in his statement: “It is by thoughtful reflection that the elusive moments of the past draw near to us in present reality and gain a measure of permanence.” With a reception from 6-9 p.m.

- Joe Peragine, “Cheerleaders”
The Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia’s SCORE: Artists in Overtime features almost 20 artists, selected by Hope Cohn. Its works explore “the relationship between sports and art through painting, sculpture, photography and multimedia.” Also! SCORE “includes 3-D printed shoes.” Opening reception is from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

It’s College Night at the High on Saturday. Actually, Saturday is the first in a whole college month. Tickets are $7 for students. It has cool exhibits!
