Kibbee will open Mediated Line, an exhibit of abstractions from Angus Galloway and Lauren Peterson, on Saturday. Galloway creates with a “blind” technique, the better to produce direct/unfiltered marks, according to the gallery, which Galloway then finishes into a complex drawing. Peterson also works within the boundaries of mark-making, though her mixed-media pieces also incorporate sewing and knotting onto the objects or surfaces of her choice. With an opening reception from 6-10 p.m.

SATURDAY

Travis Dodd’s Murmurs opens at whitespace , with an opening reception from 7-10 p.m. on Saturday. Dodd is a SCAD grad. I’d recommend starting with his previous work here (described as bringing “awareness, dignity, and hope to 50 million waiting in the wings”).

Migratory Potency opens at Kai Lin Art on Saturday. The three-person exhibit — Wallace DuVall, Elliston Roshi, and Dale Clifford — “is an examination of nature its influence on the human spirit,” according to the gallery. The media involved here are sumi ink, lino/wood cut, and a variety of that and more. A defining principle is abstraction and its corollary, aestheticism. (Consider Clifford, who focuses on shapes, lines, and textures.) With an opening reception from 7-10 p.m.
