From Serenbe to Downtown, there’s a little something for everyone

Before there was Frozen, there was The Snow Queen. That’s how the folks over the Serenbe Playhouse are pushing their production of the classic, wintery tale. Or in their words: “A triumph of love over cynicism, this stunningly visual piece will be a holiday show like nothing you’ve ever seen before.” Opens tonight at 8 p.m., and runs through Dec. 21. $15-20. Happy 25th BDAY, A Cappella Books! The indie literary institution is celebrating their reaching the quarter century mark with an essay collection A Cozy Infinity: 25 (Mostly) Atlanta Writers on the Never-Ending Allure of Books and Bookstores. There’s a signing at the Carter Library at 6 p.m., followed by an after-party at Manuel’s Tavern. Call it books and booze.

Visual artist and Arrested Development DJ Rasa Don is bringing his latest works to Old Fourth Ward’s new event space, Phase A. Ras: My Visual Dialogue will have an opening reception Fri., Dec. 5, from 8-11 p.m., with one-night only limited edition t-shirts from Fallen Arrows. Details here.

Through Dec. 13, Thomas Deans Fine Art will have new paintings from Atlanta’s David Kidd from his exhibition, Shadow and Light. Of the exhibit Kidd says: “The physical act of applying paint has a strong influence on the direction of my paintings. Layering, editing. and re-editing, function as a meditative dialogue between the work and me. I want the act of painting to be a journey of discovery.” Join in on the discovering Mon.-Sat., 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Full details, here.

Remember Alvaro Avillar and his “Formula for Hate” piece that got some Atlanta Police officers all riled up? Well, Avillar’s back with a show, In Your Face, at Further Art in TULA. The exhibition features a series of grid-painting interpretations of the smiley face that combine elements of pop art and cartoons. The show runs from Dec. 6 to Dec. 13, with a reception Fri., Dec. 12, from 7-10 p.m. More info, here.
