Not even 24 hours after the opening reception of Gordon Parks: Segregation Story, Andrew Moore’s The South, and Steve Schapiro’s In the Viewing Roon: Selma, Jackson Fine Art will give visitors the opportunity to hear from the artists themselves. Photographers Andrew Moore and Steve Schapiro will both be giving an artist talk on Sat., Jan. 24, at 11 a.m. Schapiro, whose work features rare footage of the Selma-to-Montgomery march, is also known for his celebrity subjects, such as Rene Magritte, David Bowie, and Katherine Hepburn. Moore, in this exhibition especially, documents space with intimacy and insight. Opening reception for the exhibition will be Friday, Jan 23 at 6 p.m. More information available here.

Col. Mustard, with the knife, in the… Big House? Transgression: An Unorthodox Reading Series, Deer Bear Wolf’s new quarterly lit reading series, partners with Big House on Ponce for an evening of scholarly scandal and suspense. “Clue: A Literary Evening of the Most Murderous Vein” will host a suspicious amalgamation of local writers and actors, including Kelly Reardon as Ms. Peacock, Jason Mallory as Mr. Green, Adam Lowe as Col. Mustard and others, as they attempt to “bring the novelty back to the novel crowd.” Curated by Laura Relyea and John Carroll, this first installment of Transgression will begin at 8 p.m. on Jan 22. More details can be found here.

For those of you who haven’t had time for interplanetary travel this season, Saturday is your last chance for lift off at Hagedorn Foundation Gallery. Gavin Godfrey already gave us the scoop on Peter Bahouth’s intricately designed dioramas, photographed with a stereoscopic camera. To really understand the story behind this young boy looking up though, you’ll have to go see for yourself. For more information on New Takes, click here.
