Artist Jessica Caldas is no stranger to controversy. Her piece “Four Letter Word,” the first of her work as a 2013-2014 Walthall Fellowship recipient, received some less than enlightened coverage from Fox 5, branding the work with a new title: “Kama Sutra Exhibit.” Close to five months later, Caldas is ready to move forward with a new body of work: Can You Tell Me About It? The prints and drawings included in the exhibition focus on the story of Helen Cummings, and will be on view through Sat., Feb. 28, at the Rialto Center for the Arts, the Atlanta artist will be hosting an informal talk at the same location Thurs., Feb. 5, at 5-8 p.m. The event is also a part of the First Thursdays Art Walk, so don’t forget to check out <a href=”http://clatl.com/atlanta/the-mammal-gallery/Location?oid=9343966 target=”_blank”>Mammal, Eyedrum, and Gallery 72 as well.

Rachel Reese, a recently returned Atlanta local, has curated a new exhibition examining the relationship between people and material, and what exactly makes things funny. Pratfall Tramps, which features work by Tammy Rae Carland, Jamie Isenstein, Sara Greenberger Rafferty, and Mary Reid Kelley, highlights artwork’s comedic desire and the way in which art objects echo humanity in humor. The Atlanta Contemporary Art Center will open the exhibition on Fri., Feb. 6, at 7 p.m. The opening is free and there will be a cash bar. You shouldn’t forget to watch Jamie Isenstein’s performance of “Magic Lamp” from 7:30-8:30 p.m., but if you do you’ll have another opportunity on Saturday from 2-4 p.m.

SATURDAY

Just because Eyedrum Art and Music Gallery changed its location, that doesn’t mean it’s changing its ability to support innovative forms of expression. Sat., Feb. 7, Eyedrum will host Premier Premiere: A Movement Series, which features artists’ response to the new space. In addition to the art on view, there will be a Q&A session with the artists, performances by Corian Ellisor and Nicole Kedaroe, and Onur Topal-Sumer’s curated selection of dance films. The event will start at 7:30 p.m. For more information, click here.

Don’t forget to stop by MINT Gallery to check out Here to GO, their second annual juried exhibition featuring artwork from 57 artists from around the country. Craig Dongoski and Pam Longobardi, Atlanta artists themselves, co-juried the exhibition of “disruptive innovation.” Sun., Feb. 8, is its last day available to the public — so get out there before it’s gone.
