Weekend Arts Agenda: ‘Smashed Landscapes’ February 19 2015

Plus, new exhibitions at the Low Museum and MINT Gallery

?? ?? Atlanta based artist Steve Pomberg is about to unveil new work. The exhibition, Smashed Landscapes, will combine bright color-fields and geometric shapes in an attempt to demonstrate abstracted landscapes and objects. “These paintings offer the viewer an illusionary, campestral escape from the drab tones and distressed state of our immediate urban environment,” Pomberg says. Presented by Beep Beep Gallery, the opening reception will be held on Sat., Feb. 21 at 7 p.m. More info available here.

What makes something valuable enough to preserve? Not all of us can afford professional preservation — or land our work a spot in a major institutional archive. As a part of their DIY Discussion Series, the Low Museum will be hosting Wendy Hagenmaier (Georgia Tech Digital Collections archivist) and Mandi Johnson (Georgia Tech Visual Materials archivist) as facilitators to openly discuss the methods, theories, and problems involved in material preservation. The structure of the event is that of an open forum discussion, not a Q&A session, though the facilitators will give a preliminary presentation before opening up the floor. This is one of a series of dialogues regarding DIY practices organized by <a href=”murmermedia.org” target”_blank”=”“>Murmur and the Low Museum, and will take place on Thurs., at 5:30 p.m. Coffee and pastries available for a donation.
