The juxtaposition of queer and southern identity is unique and challenging to articulate. Theatre director and development artist Amber Bradshaw and contemporary choreographer and performance artist Corian Ellisor have collaborated to present Identified: A Queer Variety Show!, a special project about identity and what it means to them as queer artists and southerners. In the immensely personal experience, the duo hopes that the multimedia performance will be an exploration into the human condition by shedding light on their experiences. The show will combine contemporary dance, drag, burlesque, and theatre in the process. The show will open at 7 Stages Theatre on Thurs., Feb. 26, with an opening reception after the show on Fri., Feb. 27, and a special industry night encore performance on Sat., Feb. 28, at 10 p.m. (all other shows begin at 8 p.m.). City of Ink is “where cool kids come to be cultured.” At least, this is one of our reasons for picking it as the Best Tattoo Shop in Atlanta last year. To celebrate their eight year anniversary, the shop will present Enough Iz Enough: Part 2, an exhibition of over 20 locally and nationally recognized artists. Free drinks. Free food. Free entry. The purpose of MOCA GA’s newest exhibition, GATHERED: Georgia Artists Selecting Georgia Artists, is not to find a common theme or do a survey. It does work to showcase some of the best artists in the state, however, as a result of a four person panel’s evaluation of almost 1,200 submitted works of art. The panel, comprised of Georgia artists John D. Lawrence, Jiha Moon, Joseph Norman, and Brian Rust, managed to narrow down 77 talented artists from around the state. The exhibition, which opens on Sat., Feb. 28, will run until April 11. A reception will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. More information available here. ?? ?

? ?? Fainting in the presence of childbirth isn’t unprecedented. Fear of flying in airplanes isn’t totally uncommon. And sure, most people are nervous on their wedding day. Scott Stossel, however, takes these reactions to a new level. In his new book, My Age of Anxiety, Stossel examines his anxiety: a mental illness that went without diagnosis 35 years ago. Through personal experience and extensive research, the book takes an honest look at the illness with both criticism and understanding. Sun., March 1st, 2015, at 7:30 p.m., Stossel will read from, discuss, and sign copies of his book at the Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta in Dunwoody, Georgia.
