Weekend Arts Agenda: Marcia Woods Gallery showcases Ceramics February 18 2016

Plus, <i>Typical American Families</i> presents its photo exhibit.

The Ceramics exhibit comes to the Marcia Woods Gallery (Midtown), with the opening reception set for Thurs., Feb. 18, from 7-9 p.m. The highly anticipated gallery features a wide variety of ceramic work from seven artists, “ranging geographically from Europe to Japan to the American Southeast,” Marcia Wood Gallery reps said in a press release. 

Ceramics features art from Donald Locke, Swiss-based artist Jeff Kaller, Tokyo native Yuichiro KomatsuWilliam DePauw, Virginia ScotchieDawn Holder, and Atlanta-based artist Katie Ridley Murphy

Ceramics is on view thru March 19 from 12- 5 p.m.

›› Typical American Families, a photo exhibit focusing on family diversity in Georgia, premieres at the Rotunda in the Georgia State Capitol Building on Fri., Feb. 19, from 1-5 p.m. 

The exhibit aims to bring awareness to the Strong Families Resolution, which highlights issues affecting all families and urges legislators to take action. MK Anderson of the Feminist Women’s Health CenterKalpana Krishnamurthy of Forward Together, Carlton Mackey, co-founder of Typical American FamiliesTishana J. Trainor of SPARK RJ Now, and Marilynn Winn of Women on the Rise, are scheduled to speak. 

“Our goal is to introduce legislators to the realities of Georgia’s typical families, who are more diverse and unique than our policies recognize,” Anderson says.

›› The MINT Gallery hosts its third annual national juried art exhibition on Sat., Feb. 20, from 7-10 p.m. Juried by Micah Stansell and Whitney StansellWhere We Are Going, Where We Have Been, features work from 36 artists who seek to capture the art of seeing and experiencing the world.  

Where We Are Going, Where We Have Been is on view thru March 20.
