Comic’s Weekly Roundup: From TMNT to T.J. Miller

Comedienne Olivia Cathcart offers her best bets for the rest of the week

Atlanta has one of the best comedy scenes in the country, and each week is filled with plenty of opportunities to see some of Atlanta’s best local comics and visiting national touring acts. He’s your best bets for getting into some funny business.

Wed., May 27
Film buffs and comedy friends come together for Scene Missing. This unique, incredibly fun show features comedy, music, and other performances based on films. This month’s show, Scene Missing Presents: ATLANTANS IN A HALF-SHELL, will feature performances based on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Order a pizza, put on your best yellow jumpsuit, and grab your rat sensei because this is going to be one of the most radical Scene Missing shows yet. Highland Ballroom doors open at 8 p.m., show at 9 p.m. Tickets are $10 online, $15 at the door. Cowabunga!

Thurs., May 28  Atlanta has some of the best up-and-coming comics in the country, and  one of those is Rob Haze. Haze recently won first place at this year’s Laughing Skull Comedy Festival, the highest an Atlanta comic has placed, and will be headlining the Improv this Thursday. Haze is a fantastic comedian and one of the most entertaining people in the city. Show starts at 8 p.m., don’t miss it.

>> Afterwards, head over to the Village Theatre for Ladie’s Night. Ladie’s Night combines sketch comedy and stand-up. This show tends to be standing room only, so get there early. Show starts at 10:30 p.m.; free.

Fri., May 29
>> Friday night is the return of Atlanta’s semi-scandalous comedy show, Underwear Comedy Party. Comedians will perform in nothing but their undies Friday night at the Village Theatre. It’s a wild, it’s fun, it’s one of a kind. Show starts at 11 p.m., bar open before then. Tickets are $10 but free admission if you come in your undies. How far will you go to save a few bucks?

>> On Friday and Saturday, the Hangar will put on another installment of 90’s Sitcom Rewind. Local comics and actors will re-enact an episode of one of your favorite 90’s sitcom. Past shows have covered “Saved By the Bell” and “Fresh Prince,” this edition will feature “Golden Girls.” Shows are Friday and Saturday night at 9 p.m. In addition, each night will feature stand-up sets from local comics such as Paige Bowman, Dulce Sloan, and more.

The Weekend
======>> This weekend features two amazing comedians at Atlanta’s best clubs. Over in Midtown, Jay Larson will headline six shows, Thursday through Sunday, at the Laughing Skull Lounge. Larson has logged appearances on “Tosh.0,” “The Late Late Show,” “The Smoking Gun Presents,” “Conan,” and his own half hour special on Comedy Central. Larson is also a fantastic storyteller, showcased weekly on his popular podcast, “The Crabfeast” on Jay Mohr’s Fake Mustache Studios.

>> Over in Buckhead, “Silicon Valley” star T.J. Miller returns to the Improv. One of the most wildly entertaining and unique performers around, Miller is currently touring the nation on his Meticulously Ridiculous tour. Miller has earned many accolades including being named Variety’s “http://variety.com/t/10-comics-to-watch/Top 10 Comics to Watch.” He’s also appeared in many movies including Get Him to the Greek, How to Train Your Dragon, Extract, She’s Out of My League, and more. Miller will headline four shows, Friday through Saturday.

>> Saturday night you can get some late-night laughs at the 1AM Secret Show at Smith’s Olde Bar’s Atlanta Room. It’s the most unpredictable show in town as special guests pop in all the time, but you never know who or when … although, word on the street is this week’s show will have a very special guest lined up. Has their name been said already on this post? Probably. You just got to find out for yourself. Show starts at 1 a.m., free as can be. Don’t. Miss. This. Week’s. 1AM!
