Comic’s Weekly Roundup: Andy Sandford is back in town

Comedian Olivia Cathcart makes her picks for this week’s top comedy events including Andy Sandford, Dungeon, Jim Gaffigan and more.

? Atlanta has one of the best comedy scenes in the country, and each week is filled with plenty of opportunities to see local comics and visiting national touring acts. He’s your best bets for getting into some funny business.
??
? ?? Mon., Aug. 10?? ?? For over ten years, Rodney Leete has hosted the best show in town every Monday night at Star Bar. This show packs a lengthy line-up of Atlanta’s best local talent (as well as the occasional out-of-town guest) all for free. Doors open at 8 p.m.; festivities kick off at 9:30 p.m. Get there early if you want a seat. ??
? ?? Tue., Aug. 11?? ?? Standard and comedy nerds alike should flock to the Hangar in Old Fourth Ward for the tenth edition of Dungeon. One of the more unique shows in town, Dungeon combines stand-up with live one-on-one role-playing games, a la Dungeons and Dragons. Host/Game Master Remi Treuer will guide comics Joe Pettis, Mo Arora, and Andrew George through various dangerous adventures with William Miracle, Ben Palmer, and Ronndell Smith performing stand-up in between. Doors open at 8 p.m.; show at 8:30 p.m. $5 suggested donation.

? Thur., Aug. 13
======Over in EAV, 529 Bar will host another atypical comedy show. Drunk/Sober/High will feature a handful of hilarious comics telling jokes, but there’s no guarantee they will all be sober and coherent by the time they hit the stage. In fact, only three comics will be sober, the rest will either be high as a kite or hammered. Nine comedians on three teams will compete to find out if being drunk or high makes you funnier than being stone cold sober. The show also includes music from Bearknuckle and Illiterates. Doors open at 8 p.m.

?? On Friday, the Laughing Skull crew is bringing their Best of Atlanta Comedy series back for another night at [http://clatl.com/atlanta/Location?oid=3099139&guide=city]. For $18, you get to see 12-plus local comedians hit the stage as well as six drink tickets. Tickets should go quick, so hop on it and get your fill of jokes and Red Brick brews. Doors open at 8:30 p.m.; show at 9 p.m.
?
? ?? The Weekend ?? ?? This weekend, the Laughing Skull Lounge welcomes back former ATLien Andy Sandford. Sandford got his start in the Atlanta comedy scene before moving to New York in 2011. Since then, he released his critically acclaimed solo album, Me, The Whole Time (recorded live at Star Bar), and recently made his late night debut on “Conan.” Sandford is a personal favorite of mine, and an absolutely brilliant comedic mind. He headlines six shows Thursday through Sunday.
