The Series Cynic: Braves split a four-pack with the Brewers
A familiar face toed the rubber for the Braves this weekend followed by a familiar performance of sheer anti-brilliance.
Two impressive wins sandwiched around two lousy losses equaled one dissatisfying weekend series for the Braves as they returned from the All-Star break looking to maintain their place atop the National League East.
While Atlanta has yet to lose a series at home in over two months, splitting its series against an underachieving Milwaukee team has to somewhat mirror the experience of a “sibling saliva swap”—or the kissing of one’s sister, if you like.
However, the Braves (54-38) are still sitting in first place after the series split and appear to be the most complete team in their division, if not the entire National League.
At least that was the case until Friday night, when Braves fans were reminded that it doesn’t take immense talent or unrelenting willpower to occupy a roster spot in the Majors—a poorly structured contract works just fine.
