Tyler Perry to launch new TV show, save Christmas, etc.

Tyler Perry to stage “A Madea Christmas,” launch “For Better or Worse” on TBS.

Image Having released Madea’s Big Happy Family last week, Tyler Perry is, apparently, doing every possible other showbiz activity.

On May 13-14, he’ll be starring in Tyler Perry’s A Madea Christmas - the timing of which suggests he’ll be taping it for a DVD release just in time for the holidays. Apparently the plot is has it that “A wealthy family meets for Christmas at their posh Cape Cod estate; family arguments and secrets cause quite a stir. It takes Mr. Brown, Cora and the almighty Madea to save this Christmas and make it into a foot-stomping good time.” It’s the kind of thing that seems crazy at first, and then makes so much sense you wonder why Perry hadn’t done it years ago.

In addition to Perry renewing his movie deal with Lionsgate, as announced last month, TBS announced a deal that Tyler Perry would be ending his long-running (182 episodes as of this week) sitcom “House of Payne,” and launching a new one, “Tyler Perry’s For Better or Worse.” Based on the Why Did I Get Married? series, the show stars Michael Jai White and the hilarious Tasha Smith in their roles as bickering television anchor Marcus and salon owner Angela.

Oh yeah, and he also renewed his feud with Spike Lee at a press conference last week, remarking, “I’m so sick of hearing about damn Spike Lee. Spike can go straight to hell! You can print that.” Which is especially serious because, as a Christian, Tyler Perry may actually believe in hell.
