Reed: My vision for Turner Field area redevelopment has ‘more of a Glenwood feel’

With the Braves’ move to Cobb in motion, people are turning their attention toward what might replace Turner Field and its surrounding parking lots.

Mayor Kasim Reed, who yesterday told reporters that the TED would be demolished if the ball club moves, hasn’t yet shared specifics about the potential 55-acre development. But he told V-103 this morning a bit about what he’d like to see in the area three-to-four years from now:

My vision is more of a Glenwood feel over in east Atlanta. I like that feel a little more. I think Atlantic Station is unique and I don’t want to have another Atlantic Station. I want Atlantic Station to thrive and be strong, which is what it’s doing right now. Mark Toro has totally has that moving in the right direction. I like the Glenwood feel more because it gives you a greater opportunity for mixed-used development. And I think we have a couple of surprises coming up.

All of this could be a moot point if the Braves’ Cobb deal falls through. For now, officials on all sides - with the except of some Atlanta City Councilmembers - seem intent on making the new stadium happen.
