Here’s the East Point police chief’s resignation letter

City initially declined to release memo

Earlier today, news broke that East Point Police Chief Woodrow Blue had resigned after two years of serving as the south Fulton city’s top cop. Blue was leading the department at a time when a handcuffed suspect died after being shocked six times with a Taser, the AJC notes.

City officials, however, refused to tell the reason (or reasons) behind his departure. “We are not providing a copy of the resignation (letter) to the media,” East Point spokeswoman Renita Shelton told the newspaper.

Well, thank the Lord above for the Georgia Open Records Act. This afternoon, Shelton gladly complied with CL’s formal request for the document. East Point residents looking for more information might be disappointed, however. According to the letter, which looks as if it were written on MS Word, Blue cites “personal reasons” for his departure. We’ve embedded it below.
