Republican National Convention Day 2: Pink balls to the wall

CODEPINK brought 500 tennis balls to prove how ridiculous it is that tennis balls weren’t allowed in the convention area while people can openly carry guns

Per tradition, CL Photo Editor Joeff Davis packed his gear and traveled to Cleveland to attend this year’s Republican National Convention. Then he’ll head to Philadelphia for the Democratic National Convention. We are publishing photographs from his journey. View photos from the previous day.

CODEPINK brought 500 tennis balls to the entrance of the Republican National Convention to prove how ridiculous it is that tennis balls were not allowed in the convention area while people can openly carry guns. They were met by a mob of police who quickly and forcibly removed all tennis balls from the area. “Right here you can carry assault rifles, a pistol, but you can’t have a tennis ball. That’s how stupid our gun laws are,” said Ann Wright a CODEPINK member during the protest.

An evening patrol on the streets of Cleveland. The van was driving down the street with the back visible so you could see the men with their weapons. They told me not to take their picture.
