Behold the branding for Greenhaven, the proposed South DeKalb city seeking approval during this legislative session. The Concerned Citizens for Cityhood of South DeKalb selected the name because they say it suggests sustainability and security. Other names in the running included New Phoenix, Granite City, Sky City, and New DeKalb, among others.

Parents and educators are butting heads over House Bill 100, which would change the cutoff date for kindergarten students. Under the current policy, some four-year-olds are eligible to enroll, as long as they turn five before Sept. 1 of the school year. The new bill would change that date to June 30, ensuring that all kindergartners start at the same age.
