First Slice 3-23-12: Search on for person who shot cop in L5P

1. As first reported last night at 9:51 by @mayorofponce (at least according to my Twitter feed), a cop was shot in the leg in Little Five Points by an unknown gunman, possibly firing from a nearby rooftop. The officer is okay, other than being shot in the leg and all, but that’s so not cool.

2. An Alpharetta High School teen is suing the school after he was removed from his post as student body president. Why? Allegedly because the gay teen proposed the school’s prom “be inclusive of same sex couples” by nominating a “Prom Court” instead of a “Prom King and Queen.”

3. Chattanooga-based noted drunk-food purveyor Krystal was sold to an Atlanta-based company yesterday. I’m sure the AJC covered this, but I’m linking to this story instead because “nooga.com” makes me giggle.

4. Also, longtime Atlanta Brave Chipper Jones (“ultimate franchise player”) announced he will retire after the season. I enjoyed this video of Jones’s announcement, primarily because he made the same claim every baseball player does when he leaves the game, which is how great it will be to see more of his family. I know baseball players travel a lot, but they play 81 home games, plus they get at least four months at home during the off-season! I’d be sick of my kids by spring training.
