Eva Galambos, a champion for local control who was part of the decades-long push for Sandy Springs to incorporate as a city — and later became the North Fulton city’s first mayor — died on Sunday after battling cancer. She was 87.

Mayor Kasim Reed opted not to partake in some good old fashioned competition with Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams and wager a friendly bet over last night’s Atlanta Hawks game against the Brooklyn Nets. “The city of Atlanta hasn’t thought about what to send to Brooklyn if the Hawks lose because we are confident they are going to win,” a Reed spokeswoman is quoted as saying in the New York Daily News.
