How can you not at least be curious about a new restaurant/bar whose name alludes to Prince’s greatest hit? Purple Rain (3550 Mall Blvd., 770-418-9086) recently opened in Duluth and is serving breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as late-night glamour. It’s open until 2 a.m. daily.

The dinner menu is mainly small plates and it’s international to say the least. Among the dishes: crispy pig ears, paella, Korean braised pork belly, cioppino, lamb biryani, chimichurri hanger steak, tacos and lots more.

A news release includes this cryptic statement:

Purple Rain’s dining room serves creative fare in the form of small plates for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The most noteworthy menu item: a mouthwatering $1,000 dessert—made from golden chocolate truffle nuggets and topped with an icy piece of bling.

Besha will be reviewing the dessert. I’ll stick to the $6 pig ears.
