What’s happening in Atlanta today

Attack of the Killer Tomato Festival

Park Tavern - 500 10th St. Atlanta, GA 30309 $75. 1 p.m.

Join Georgia Organics at Park Tavern for this annual summer fundraiser: an afternoon of food, drinks and live music paying homage to Atlanta’s favorite vegetable, er, we mean fruit: the tomato. Headed up by chef Ford Fry, the ninth annual festival will offer an array of local, organic tomato-based dishes from dozens of different chefs, mixologists and restaurants, including 8arm, the General Muir, Gunshow and Farm Burger. Proceeds help Georgia Organics connect food from Georgia farms to local families in need.

Meat Out: Vegetarian Food and Wholistic Health Fair

Atlanta Metropolitan State College - 1630 Metropolitan Parkway S.W. Atlanta, GA 30310 Free-$15. 2 p.m.

Join the Black Vegetarian Society of Georgia for its annual celebration of all things meat-free. The event will include a holistic health fair, all-vegan food court and marketplace. Workshops and demos will come from plant-based chefs like Stephanie Sunshine of Lovn’ It Live, Tassili Ma’at of Tassili’s Raw Reality and chef Zu of King’s Apron, as well as bodywork and sound healing demos from healers like Astarius Miraculous. A special musical performance will come from Atlanta-based rapper Grey, whose “Vegan Thanksgiving” music video (featuring CL cover girl chef Ahki) went viral last year. Admission is free for BVSGA members and swag bags go to the first 300 attendees.

Project: Seeing Other

Treehouse Photo Studio - 751 James P. Brawley Drive N.W. Atlanta, 30318 $35. 3 p.m.

Following the 2017 presidential inauguration, a group of women who met at the national Women’s March founded SHEconversations, a nonprofit “committed to undoing biases experienced by disenfranchised and marginalized people.” The group’s next project is Seeing Other, a photojournalistic social justice project aimed at cultivating meaningful conversations around differences. Seeing Other will focus on “being able to see past one’s differences” in order to understand the issues faced by marginalized groups. The night’s discussion will end with a photo session.

Pretty Sweet Party

The Sound Table - 483 Edgewood Ave. S.E. Atlanta, GA 30312 5 p.m.

Curators of all things fun, Sean Fahie and Reginald Sykes (Kut Daily) are bringing their monthly Pretty Sweet Party to the Sound Table for a midsummer celebration. Cool off with booze and vibes from Kut Daily, Salah Ananse, Kerosene and more.

Deon Cole

Comedian Deon Cole is one of the busiest people in Hollywood. He stars in TBS’s absurdist comedy “Angie Tribeca” and ABC’s hit sitcom “Black-ish.” This fall, Cole adds a BET game show to his resume, and in 2018, he takes on a lead role in “College-ish.” Cole’s new half-hour special on Netflix’s “The Standups” premiered on July 4, and he’s spending three nights at Atlanta Comedy Theater to laugh with Atlanta.
