Measure 4 Measure

Synchronicity Theatre - 1545 Peachtree St. N.E., No. 102 Atlanta, GA 30309 $15-$20. 8 p.m.

Despite being written in the 1600s, Shakespeare’s plays prove their relevancy time and time again. Local theater initiative the Make Mom Proud Project presents a reimagining of the Bard’s Measure 4 Measure, set in present-day America amidst the Bill Cosby and Brock Turner trials. Measure 4 Measure, known for its themes of justice and morality is re-edited to focus on the crimes of the play’s antagonist, Angelo. The creators put Angelo on trial to show the audience that despite the expanse of time that has passed between the play’s premiere and now, society still fails to hold sexual predators accountable for their actions. Be prepared: The play comes with a trigger warning as it does not handle matters of assault and violence lightly. Measure 4 Measure stars Gabriella Anderson, Adam King and Rachel Wansker and is directed by Jacob McKee.
