Over the course of his career as a folklorist, University of North Carolina history professor William Ferris has documented famous and not-so-famous Southerners. In his first exhibition of color photography, Ferris captures the everyday moments of Southern people, depicting the likes of prisoners, quilt makers, and roadside vendors in the simple moments of their days.

 

The Silent Killer

Landmark Midtown Art Cinema - 931 Monroe Drive N.E. Atlanta, GA 30308 $12. 6:30 p.m.

With a striking title, this documentary tells the story of African Americans affected by prostate cancer. Men in all four stages of the disease share their truths as well as the myths they have heard. The film strives to spread awareness about the deadly and often overlooked form of cancer. Director Landi Maduro will be present at the screening.

Written by Rajiv Joseph and directed by Michael Haverty, this 7 Stages production follows two American Marines and their Iraqi translator as they navigate the war-riddled city of Baghdad. They meet a tiger who haunts the city’s streets, witnessing the absurdities that war has brought with it and eventually coming to the aid of the three men who are in search of friendship, redemption and a golden toilet seat.
