Atlanta Ice Cream Festival

Piedmont Park - 400 Park Drive Atlanta, GA 30306 Free-$5. 11 a.m.

I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream at Atlanta’s sweetest summer festival. Head to Piedmont Park for a whole summer’s worth of cool treats from Bruster’s Real Ice Cream, Rita’s Italian Ice, Jake’s Ice Cream and other local vendors. Join the ice cream eating competition and load up on calories guilt-free, as this fest also includes a Fight Cancer 5K, Frisbee toss, Hula-Hoop competitions and a wellness pavilion sponsored by the Fulton-Dekalb Hospitality Authority with free health screenings all day.

 

Back to School Free Health Fair + School Supplies

Carrie Steele-Pitts Home - 667 Fairburn Road Atlanta, GA 30331 Free-$5. 11 a.m.

Back-to-school season is right around the corner, and thousands of children are in need of notebooks, pens, pencils and more. The Carrie Steele-Pitts Home, a local nonprofit child-care agency, hosts a back-to-school health and school supply fair. Anyone in need in the Atlanta area is welcome to stock up on free backpacks and school supplies as well as health, dental and vision screenings. There will also be music, food and holiday items for sale. It’s never too early to think about Christmas gifts. Donations of school supplies as well as community shelter items such as warm blankets will be accepted until July 21.

 

ARTiculate Atlanta

Mason Fine Art and Events - 415 Plasters Ave. N.E. Atlanta, GA 30324 $25. 7 p.m.

ARTiculate Atlanta has been strengthening Atlanta’s art community for five years and counting. An “urban art social” dedicated to promoting modern and traditional artistic expression, ARTiculate Atlanta works to support artist communities by connecting creators across the city. For its fifth anniversary, the social has brought together 33 of Atlanta’s best emerging artists to celebrate their craft. ARTiculate ATL 2017 will include an art sale, live demonstrations from the artists, some of Atlanta’s best DJs and complimentary cocktails. The 33 artists will be on site to discuss their work and artistic process, and proceeds from the event will benefit the Urban Art Expression Youth Artists Program.

 

Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Inn at Serenbe - 10950 Hutcheson Ferry Road Chattahoochee Hills, GA 30268 $10-$15. 7 p.m.

Serenbe Film is bringing the drive-in back with a screening of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Movie-goers can grab pre-show munchies from food trucks and snag special Star Wars-themed prizes. Just imagine how good Daisy Ridley, John Boyega and Oscar Isaac and those battle scenes will look Serenbe’s new 40 x 20-foot outdoor screen. The battle between the Resistance and the First Order will light up Serenbe’s Wildflower Meadow, and familiar faces will be revived three decades after the fall of Darth Vader and the Galactic Empire. The film will start at sundown, but food, fun and the best parking will begin at 7 p.m.

 

Taste of Aglanta

Sweet Auburn Curb Market - 209 Edgewood Ave. S.E. Atlanta, GA 30303 $50-$150. 7 p.m.

Celebrate the season with urban growers market event Taste of Aglanta, featuring food tastings and signature cocktails prepared with local produce by chefs and mixers from the Sweet Auburn Curb Market and other Atlanta restaurants. There will also be live jazz by Jules and the Gents, a silent auction and a spoken presentation from the Mayor’s Office of Resilience urban agriculture director, Mario Cambardella, and Groundwork Atlanta executive director Jill Arrington. General admission tickets include unlimited tastings and two drinks. Proceeds from the market benefit local agriculture production and expansion through Groundwork Atlanta.
