What’s happening in Atlanta today

Atlanta Streets Alive: Westside

Marietta Street and Howell Mill Road Atlanta, GA 4 p.m. Free.

Ditch your car and head over to the Westside for Atlanta Streets Alive, which will shut down portions of Marietta Street and Howell Mill Road for a people-powered event celebrating a “healthy, sustainable and vibrant city street experience.” Attendees are encouraged to bike, walk, skate and move in any way that inspires them, so long as it’s a non-motorized form of transportation. Organized by the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition, the event kicks off with a bicycle parade with various vendors set up along the route.

Crash Our Wedding

Terminus 330 - 330 Marietta St. NW Atlanta, GA 30313 Free. 4 p.m.

Ever secretly wanted to crash a wedding? Atlanta Streets Alive and Terminus 330 have paired up to make your dreams come true with Crash Our Wedding, the Westside’s first-ever street wedding. Taking place during Atlanta Streets Alive’s Westside Route event, the wedding will include a reception with a cash bar, food samples, live band and a DJ.

Dave Chapelle

The Tabernacle - 152 Luckie St. N.W. Atlanta, GA 30303 $69-$275. 7 p.m.

Hot off the heels of two stand-up specials for Netflix (that reportedly banked the comedian $60 million, with a third special on the way), Dave Chappelle is returning to the stage with a string of U.S. tour dates. Following the success of his sketch comedy TV series “Chapelle’s Show,” Chapelle surprised audiences with an abrupt departure from the Comedy Central show and the public eye in 2005. A series of comedy club appearances in 2013 marked a slow return that culminated with hosting “Saturday Night Live” in November and the release of his Netflix specials in March. It’s safe to say, Chapelle is back in a big way. Catch the comedy giant in his element during one of his eight upcoming shows at the Tabernacle.

John Paul White, Lera Lynn

Park Tavern - 500 10th St. Atlanta, GA 30309 Free. 7 p.m.

Two of Nashville’s most inspired singer/songwriters, former Civil Wars guitarist and vocalist John Paul White (pictured above) and the formerly Athens, Georgia-based Lera Lynn, co-headline an evening in Piedmont Park. White is touring to support his second solo outing, 2016’s Beulah, a stripped-down, somber and bittersweet rumination on love lost and honest introspection. White is a sympathetic match for the mood and atmosphere of Lynn’s noir-styled voice and songwriting. Catching this duo’s back-to-back sets, their subtle nuances complimented by the natural sounds of the city and life in the park, makes for an enticing way to spend a Sunday eve.

Tortured Soul

City Winery - 650 North Ave. Atlanta, GA 30308 $20-$35. 7 p.m.

Folks who think that house music is nothing more than a cold, soulless and strictly electronic genre have probably never heard of Tortured Soul. The Brooklyn-based trio (currently consisting of drummer/lead vocalist John-Christian Urich, bassist Jordan Scannella and keyboardist Isamu McGregor) has been taking its brand of house built on the foundation of live instrumentation and not computers to audiences around the world since 2004. And when the group makes its return to Atlanta, the members will be bumping their catalog of soulful, beat-heavy hits, including their latest single “U Live 2 Far Away.” Opening and closing turntable sets by ATL’s own DJ Kemit.
