5 things to do: Summer Sextravaganza Game Night - August 16 2017

What’s happening in Atlanta today

Smoke, Mirrors

Marcia Wood Gallery - 1037 Monroe Drive Atlanta, GA 30306 Free. Noon.

Despite their departure from Atlanta, Rich Gere and Dayna Thacker continue to influence the city’s art scene. Their next artistic collaboration, Smoke, Mirrors, is a two-person exhibition that explores power, nature and “our ability to transmute circumstances into a more desirable reality.” As a real-life couple, the artists’ collaborations span back many years, and often cannot be experienced separately while Gere tackles the outer, physical world, Thacker explores the inner, psychological perspective. Perhaps this is the secret to their collaborative triumphs: Together, they build the whole picture. Opening reception: Wed., Aug. 2, 7 p.m.

The Metamorphosis of an Immigrant

Latin American Association - 2750 Buford Highway Atlanta, GA 30324 Free. 5:30 p.m.

Having lived in three different countries, Maite Nazario knows a little something about experiences of immigration. Born in Guatemala and raised in Puerto Rico, she moved to the United States during her freshman year of high school and has been here since. Her next exhibit is The Metamorphosis of an Immigrant, which will show at the Latin American Association and explores immigrant identities and experiences of movement across borders.
