What’s happening in Atlanta today

Atlanta Streets Alive: Central

Midtown and Downtown at Peachtree Street Free. 2 p.m.

The Atlanta Bicycle Coalition and Atlanta Streets Alive will open Peachtree Street to people on foot and bike and close for motorized traffic. The closure will stretch almost three miles from Midtown to Downtown.

 

The Great Chair Hack with MODA + IDSA

Museum of Design Atlanta - 1315 Peachtree St., N.E. Atlanta, GA 30309 $5. 2 p.m.

Museum of Design Atlanta and IDSA are asking design and IKEA conisseurs to come and do wacky things to IKEA chairs for September’s Midtown-Downtown Atlanta Streets Alive. Teams are given three hours to turn the versatile chairs into anything but a chair, and even battery operated creations are allowed. There will be prizes for the best chair hacks.

 

Deaf/Hard of Hearing story time

Little Shop of Stories - 133 East Court Square Decatur, GA 30030 Free. 3 p.m.

Little Shop of Stories is teaming up with the Georgia Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing and Georgia State University for storytime. All children are welcome, and a sign language expert will be there so that more people can enjoy the story.

 

September Queer Picnic

Piedmont Park - 400 Park Drive Atlanta, GA 30303 Free. 4 p.m.

Rotten Peaches gathers the crew for a fall queer picnic. Play games, munch on snacks (BYO), enter to win prizes, learn about local queer advocacy organizations and chill out to This Free Life and DJ Sha.

 

Vegan Sunday Supper: Breakfast

Hampton + Hudson - 299 N. Highland Ave. Atlanta, GA 30307 $40-$50. 6 p.m.

Join chef Savannah Susser of Hampton + Hudson for a vegan twist on breakfast for dinner. Susser will whip up four courses, with the option to pair dishes with craft beers from Green Flash Brewery. Menu items include fried tempeh chicken with a sweet potato waffle and sriracha maple aioli; fall veggie quiche; biscuits with tomato gravy and more.
